Ozanich and Delzer sweep D3 titles of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
Published by
Holly Ozanich (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) domainted the field in the women's weight throw at the NCAA Division III Championships. Ozanich, who entered the meet as the clear favorite, fouler her first attempt but took the lead in the second round and never looked back. Her best of 20.62m (67-8) was more than a meter better than the runner up, set a new personal best, and was more than three feet better than her winning mark from last year. Ozanich also won the shot put competition and led her team to an NCAA title with 20 of the team's 46.5 points. By our records, it also moved her up to second on the all-time D3 list behind three-time NCAA weight throw champion Robyn Jarocki (also of Wisconsin-Oshkosh). Second place went to Yaneve Fonge (Rochester), who improved her personal best by more than a foot. Mindy Harrington took third, and made sure the podium matched the pre-meet form chart.
Pete Delzer (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) shook up the standing on the men's side to make sure that the Titans took home both titles. His personal best of 19.60m (64-3 3/4) in the fifth round launched him from sixth to first place. He entered the meet ranked just seventh and took the title away from Tony Sigrist (Wisconsin-Eau Claire), who was ranked 11th entering the meet. His best of 19.51m (64-0 1/4) added more than two feet to his personal best. Third place finisher Robert Kapustka (North Central College) also threw a personal best. Ben Ludtke (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) added more points for Oshkosh with a season's best for fourth place. Oshkosh finished with three of the top eight throwers.
